Instantaneous energy and undeniable passion were the result of the coming together of six men to form a new and versatile reggae band. It would be the embodiment of the Caribbean–American music experience. Music lover, producer and keyboard player Hugh Campbell had long envisioned a reggae group showcasing solid vocals and talented musicians versed in reggae, R&B, jazz, disco, psychedelic blues and calypso among others. His love of music and desire for professionalism led him to create a band, and so in early 2014 the Mellow Groove Band was formed.
Campbell met the band members over a five-year period and was exposed to their talent through a number of projects and shows. Over time he recognized the people in his midst that could bring his dream to life. He invited them for a rehearsal and the group proved to be electric. Vocals and musicians blended well, whether it was a rootsy reggae jam, a soulful ballad or an up-tempo party hit, the team flowed. It was clear the band would be able to provide top quality music for events, such as, corporate engagements, weddings, parties, festivals and the like.
The group has a combined total of over 50 years experience under their belt. Members of the band have played for renowned groups such as the Grace Thrillers, I-Wayne, Pato Banton, Beeni Man, Elephant man, Alison Hinds, Luciano, just to name a few. They have captivated audiences with their hypnotizing voice and dynamic performances, mesmerizing crowds well into the thousands. They have performed in the United States, Europe as well as the Caribbean islands of Jamaica and Dominica. They have performed at major festivals including the Air Jamaica Jazz & Blues Festival, Inman Park Festival among others and now that energy is professionally packaged in one, the Mellow Groove Band.
